Technology and its effect on natural human behaviors

Does technology have an effect on people and their behaviors?

There are both pros and cons for the use of technology in everyday life.  I have seen this viral  video pop up on my facebook feed multiple times within the past year.  It depicts how social media really doesn't make people social.  Instead of being social, technology promotes users to be more indulged into the virtual world rather than the real life.  After watching this video I experimented with myself by leaving my phone at home when attending class and what I experienced was eye opening.  Many people really aren't social and they don't even know it.  In today's day and age it has become socially acceptable to avoid person-person communication.  Many spend their time being consumed by technology and it's not a natural behavior for humans.

How much time do you spend on your phones when in the company of others?

  1. Well, since no one else has answered his question, I will. When I'm with friends and my parents, I don't spend any time on my phone. But, I'm embarrassed to say that I pull it out when I'm with my kids. At the playground, around the house, at some sports practice (but not a game), I'll get bored and go to my phone. Somehow, I don't think it's rude to ignore my kids sometimes, but I do think it's rude to look at my phone when I'm with other adults.
